Online Youth Protection Training
All parents.
Needs to be completed as soon as your son joins the troop.   The Youth Protection Program course is to ensure that all adults are up to date on the rules associated with working with youth and creating a safe scouting environment.  Please email or print a copy of your completed certificate and contact Marshall., Committee Chairman.

Online Fast Start Training
All Committee members and Scoutmasters.
Needs to be completed within 48 hours of becoming a registered Leader with the troop.  Fast Start is a program designed to help you get up and running as a Boy Scout Leader. You'll find out about the Boy Scout program and the specific responsibilities of your job.  Please email or print a copy of your completed certificate and contact Marshall, Committee Chairman.

New Leader Essentials
All Committee members and
Scoutmasters.
We need every parent/leader trained so that the boys get the quality program they deserve.  New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding and methods of Scouting. It addresses how these aims and methods are reached at an age-appropriate style within Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting Varsity Scouting and Venturing. Videos, discussions, and hands-on reinforcement are presented during the 90-minute training session.  Presented by Sierra Gateway/Ironhorse District Training Team.

Basic Leader Training
All New Committee Members and Scoutmasters.
We need every parent/leader trained so that the boys get the quality program they deserve.  After the New Leader Essentials Training, you're well on your way! Your next step is to receive the training specific to the position you hold. For Troop Committee members, there is a three hour Troop Committee Challenge course. For Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, this is a eight hour course that will teach you the basics you'll need to be a successful leader of a Boy Scout Troop. The Position Specific Training should be taken any time you change your position of responsibility.  Presented by Sierra Gateway District Training Team.

Outdoor Leader Skills
Scoutmasters and Asst. Scoutmasters.
This is the second part of the Basic Leader Training for Scoutmasters.  Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is a hands-on program that gives adult leaders the practical skills to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. The skills taught will introduce the participants to the basic scout outdoor skills through the First Class rank.  This training is done in spring and fall.  Presented by Sierra Gateway District Training Team.

Woodbadge
Scoutmasters and Asst. Scoutmasters. Highly recommended.
The Wood Badge course is a supplemental training program for Adult Leaders in the BSA. It is intended to increase leadership skills for Leaders in all parts of the Scouting program. It has been developed for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout and Venturing Leaders, as well as council and district leaders. Its focus is on leadership, not out-of-door skills.  The training is held at Camp Lassen, CA. in spring.  Presented by Golden Empire Council's Woodbadge Training Team.

Online Swim Safe Defense/Safety Afloat
Scoutmasters and Asst. Scoutmasters, required for any water activities.
The Boy Scouts of America requires that any aquatics activity be conducted in a safe manner. The first step in doing this is well trained leadership. If this is the first time you are taking this training, the Council Training Committee encourages you to attend an instructor led session to allow for discussion and questions.  Online Training.

Backpacking Awareness
Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters and Youth Leaders at least 15 years of age, recommended.
An Outdoor Awareness Seminar to develop Basic Outing Skills and Resources.  All sessions are required and held at Camp Pollock, Sacramento, CA.  Outdoor Practical held at Camp Pollock, Sacramento, CA.  Outdoor adventure is key to the Scouting Program.  The Knowledge, Skills, Techniques and Resources to safely, confidently and comfortably develop an Outdoor Program for Scouting Youth is introduced in this in-depth Seminar.  Presented by the Golden Empire Council's High Adventure Team (HAT Team). 

Applied Trek Planning
Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters and Youth Leaders at least 15 years of age, recommended.
A supplement to the Backpacking Awareness course.  The Applied Trek Planning Seminar is an Outdoor Awareness Clinic to develop the practical aspects of backpack planning and its execution through hands-on experience.  More information to come.  Presented by the Golden Empire Council's High Adventure Team (HAT Team). 

OKPIK
Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters and Youth Leaders at least 15 years of age, recommended.
A Cold Weather Camping Outdoor Awareness Seminar.  Both sessions are required.  Indoor Seminar is held at  Camp Pollock, Sacramento CA. Outdoor Practical held at  Place TBA.  This Awareness Seminar covers the Skills and Techniques for Planning and Leading a Successful, Safe and enjoyable Cold Weather Outing.  Presented by the Golden Empire Council's High Adventure Team (HAT Team). 

Wilderness First Aid
Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters and Youth Leaders at least 15 years of age, recommended.
An Awareness Seminar to develop Basic Wilderness First Aid Skills.  Two Indoor and Outdoor Sessions.  Spring Session is held 8:00am - 5:00pm each day, Camp Pollock, Sacramento, CA.  Fall Session is held 8:00am - 5:00pm each day, Camp Pollock, Sacramento, CA. Presented by the Golden Empire Council's High Adventure Team (HAT Team). 

Paddle Sports
Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters and Youth Leaders at least 15 years of age, recommended.

Climbing Awareness
Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters and Youth Leaders at least 15 years of age, recommended.
The Climbing Awareness Seminar is Outdoor Awareness Clinic to develop the practical aspects of rock climbing and repelling and its execution through hands-on experience.  The course is a two day outdoor experience.  You will be in the classroom and on the rocks. More information to come.
Patrol Leaders Council
(PLC)

Youth Training

Troop Junior Leader Training
Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Scribe, Troop Guide, Order of the Arrow Representative, Buglar, Quatermaster, Patrol Leaders and Asst Patrol Leaders.
Youth Leader Training starts in the troop. Troop Youth Leader Training is where youth members of the Boy Scouts of America learn the basics of being a patrol leader. The Scoutmaster for their junior leaders conducts this one-day workshop.

Den Chief Training
Available for Boy Scouts that offer service and leadership to Cub Scout Packs as Den Chiefs. After completing this program, the den chief is entitled to wear the Trained Leader patch below the Den Chief badge of office.  Held in October of each year.

The National Youth Leader Training  (NYLT)
A more in depth junior leadership training experience. This seven-day course or 6 days over two weekends is intended for senior patrol leaders, patrol leaders and other youth leaders. It is offered annually by our council, and conducted in a camping situation at the one of the Council Camps. Youth members staff this course supported by adult leaders.  Two courses held in May and August 2008.
